About CDL Prep Hub

A free, ad-supported study resource for U.S. commercial drivers — built without signups, paywalls, or "send your email" walls.

CDL Prep Hub is a free, ad-supported study resource for people preparing for the U.S. Commercial Driver's License written exams. Our goal is simple: give every CDL applicant — in every state, going for every endorsement — a clean, fast, no-signup way to study and practice before they sit down at the DMV.

How the content is organized

We mirror the way the CDL credential is actually issued in the United States. Every state writes its own version of the CDL exam, but every state's exam follows the FMCSA's federal knowledge and skill standards laid out in 49 CFR Part 383. So we organize content along two axes: state (your licensing agency) and endorsement (the kind of vehicle or cargo you want authorization for). Each combination has its own practice test page.

Where the questions come from

Our question bank is modeled on the FMCSA CDL Testing Standards (49 CFR §383.111 through §383.123) and the federal Model Commercial Driver's License Manual that every state CDL handbook is derived from. Where the FMCSA model leaves room for state-specific framing, our practice questions stick to the most common phrasing across the official state handbooks for the eight endorsements we cover (General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus, Tank Vehicle, and Doubles/Triples).

Because every state's exam ultimately conforms to the same federal standards, our practice tests are useful preparation in any of the 50 states plus the District of Columbia. That said, we always recommend reading your state's official CDL handbook in addition to using CDL Prep Hub — links to all 51 official PDFs are on our Handbooks page.

What we are not

CDL Prep Hub is not affiliated with the FMCSA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, or any state DMV / DPS / DOT. We don't issue licenses, schedule exams, or process applications. We can't tell you whether a specific medical condition or driving record will disqualify you — for that, contact your state licensing agency directly.

We also don't sell anything, gate downloads, or require an account. The site is supported by display advertising. If you're seeing an ad somewhere on this page, that's how we keep the practice tests free.
