- 1 CLP record (Montana) and 2 CDL records (Minnesota, Missouri) state no single permit or license amount and mark no figure UNKNOWN; each appears verbatim in the table and no figure was inferred for them.
- Each row links to the site page for that state, where the record note and the state fee source are given in full.
Read as the first amount at the start of each record, 40 of the 51 records state a single CLP figure. Their median is $22.50; no record states exactly that amount, so it is given as a computed figure only and is not attributed to any state.
ELDT locations in total
Summed across the 51 records the dataset comes to 30,815 active ELDT training providers of 31,731 registered training locations, of which 28,611 are recorded as in-person locations and 3,120 as traveling or online locations. California carries the highest recorded active-provider count (2194) and District of Columbia the lowest (32). The dataset describes these figures as a measurement of registered training capacity, not a live seat-availability feed.
Where the fees come from
Every fee figure above is the value recorded for that state in /data/cdl-shared-dataset.json, whose entries in this tree are dated 2026-07-09. The dataset states that its fee figures come from each state's own DMV, DPS or BMV fee schedule, researched and cited state by state, with the state fee page linked on every row here. A record marked UNKNOWN means the dataset found no official state figure with a clear amount, and it deliberately did not fall back on a third-party number.
Notes on these figures:
- Fee figures are copied from each state's own fee page linked in the table. Most of those pages show no effective date, so check the linked state page before you pay.
- A state marked UNKNOWN means no official primary source could be found with a clear, unambiguous figure; third-party aggregator numbers were deliberately not used as a fallback.
